The Name Game

Name – Attention - how to get our dog to look at you!

This is an exercise to really get your dog’s attention when you say his
name. When you say your dog’s name, you want it to mean, ”Look at me
until I tell you what comes next.”

It does not mean “Come!”

1. While your dog is looking at you, say her name and offer a treat.
2. Repeat twenty times in a day for three weeks.
3. Wait until she looks away, then say her name again.
4. If she looks at you right away, say “Yes” or click and treat.

If she doesn’t look at you, spend more time on steps 1 and 2 to better
condition her to her name. When she does look at you when you call her
name, reward several treats, one at a time.
