Georgia pet treats recalled for potential health risk

Agriculture Commissioner Gary W. Black is alerting Georgia’s consumers to the recall of particular packages of Bailey’s Choice dog treats. These products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella and should be discarded.

Bailey’s Choice Dog Treats, LLC, of Waleska, Ga., is recalling packages of chicken treats in various sizes marked with lot number #132881 and expiration date Feb. 2014, along with five-ounce bags of chicken jerky with a lot number of “Jun 5 2013.”

How to Report a Complaint about Jerky Pet Treats

From: FDA.gov

If your dog is currently sick or has recently been sick, and you believe it is connected to Jerky Pet Treats, we urge you to work with your veterinarian in submitting information through the Safety Reporting Portal.

Please do not call FDA, as it will delay the receipt of your information.

FDA is looking for specific information, especially medical records with blood, urine and/or tissue test results, from recent or currently ongoing cases.

Please contact your veterinarian to obtain this information, or ask your veterinarian to file a report on your pet’s behalf. Click here for more details

Jerky Treat Mystery

Nearly 600 pets have died and more than 3,600 have been sickened in an ongoing, mysterious outbreak of illnesses tied to jerky treats made in China, federal animal health officials said Tuesday.

Most of the cases have been in dogs of all breeds, ages and sizes — although 10 cats have been sickened, too — after eating chicken, duck and sweet potato jerky treats. The pace of the reported illnesses appears to have slowed, but federal Food and Drug Administration officials are now seeking extra help from veterinarians and pet owners in solving the ongoing puzzle.

“To date, testing for contaminants in jerky treats has not revealed a cause for the illnesses,” Martine Hartogensis, a deputy director for the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine, said in the new report. Read the entire article

Not only can you avoid unnecessary additives and preservatives, you will save money and be assured you are providing the best product for your dogs.

Why would you want to make a pumpkin puree for your pets? Simple. Because pumpkin is one of nature’s super foods. Its high moisture content makes it especially valuable to animals who seem determined not to drink enough water. After an initial exam and tests were conducted by Dr. Terry R. Whitecoat, VMD, Dr. Whitecoat recommended that Rover be taken to see Dr. Collie G. Deluxe, DCVSMR

Beneful

Dog owners nationwide are calling for a recall of NestlĂ© Purina’s Beneful line of dog foods, claiming the food has directly resulted in the illness and/or death of hundreds of beloved pets.

Aside from being nutritionally unsound, packed with corn-based fillers and by-products proven to be unhealthy and unnecessary in a dog’s diet, consumers are reporting a wide range of illnesses ranging from vomiting and diarrhea to bacterial infections, liver and kidney failure, and even death after eating the popular kibble.

Instead of addressing the concerns and questions from hundreds of confused, concerned, and often angry consumers through their Beneful Facebook page, the dog food giant has instead beefed up their social media moderation, deleting comments, banning consumers that post complaints or photos of their beloved pets, and posting canned responses claiming the quality and integrity of their products and urging pet parents to feed their pets Beneful with complete confidence.
