Trifexis

Trifexis Flea Medication Adversely Affecting Pets

Comments on online message boards and Facebook have been growing over various side effects related to a heartworm and flea medication known as Trifexis.

In many instances, consumers report their dogs experiencing serious to severe adverse reactions to the medication, including vomiting, lethargy, seizures and death.

Trifexis is manufactured by Elanco. The medication comes in a monthly chewable tablet for puppies and dogs that kills fleas, prevents heartworm disease and treats and controls adult hookworm, roundworm and whipworm infections.

One consumer posted the following information about her experiences with Trifexis:

“We gave our 9 yr old, 95 lb German shepherd his 4th dose of Trifexis Sunday-Jan 8, 2012. Today- Jan 10, we had to have him put to sleep. Our vet would not believe that the medication had anything to do with his symptoms; no appetite, disorientation, labored breathing. We kept waiting for him to get better. He never did. We fed him before giving him the tablet. He wasn't nauseated, he was impaired! I'm so sad and angry that I didn't do my research before using Trifexis. Please, please spread the word, for Cane.”

Maddox Hargett & Caruso is currently gathering evidence on behalf of individuals whose pets have experienced adverse reactions to Trifexis. If you have been affected, please contact us. Read the entire article

Robin's Note: If your dog has suffered side effects that you believe are related to Trifexis, PLEASE have your veterinarian file a report with the FDA. The only way the FDA will act is if they get enough reports from veterinarians.
